چکیده

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most important diseases that affected health in all over the world (Zare et al., 2013; Lin et al., 2014). Gastric cancer is the most general deadly cancer with approximately 738,000 deaths per year that over 70% of them occur in the developing countries (Jemal et al., 2011). Northern and northwestern regions of Iran are high risk areas for gastric cancer (Fallah, 2007; Moradi et al., 2013). Different frequency of gastric cancer in worldwide can be due to variation in the genetic background, dietary habits, living situation and also the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection which has been classified as Group I carcinogens (Humans, 1994). H. pylori infections can induce the host inflammatory responses and oxidative stresses. Interleukin-8 is induced by the gastric epithelium cells that infected by H. pylori, contributes to the production of too much amounts of toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) and can causes induction of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and some other interleukins (Augusto et al., 2007a). Oxidative stress that caused by ROS is involved in human carcinogenesis (Cerutti., 1985). ROS, as candidate agents in the growth of cancer, generated in normal respiration of cells and during xenobiotics metabolism, causes damage to cell membranes, mitochondria and DNA molecule. (Egan et

Predominant genotypes and alleles of two functional polymorphisms in the manganese superoxide dismutase gene are not associated with Thai cervical or breast cancer.

BACKGROUND Defects of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) have long been implicated in generation of oxidative stress and risk susceptibility to various cancers. Two functional polymorphisms within the MnSOD gene, including the Val-9Ala of the mitochondrial targeting sequence (MTS) and the Ile58Thr of the exon-3, have been proposed to reduce its enzyme activity and antioxidant potential. M...

The Association Between C194T and G399A Polymorphism of XRCC1 Gene and Susceptibility to Gastric Cancer in the People Living in the Western Part of Iran

Background: Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. It may result from a defect in the genes involved in DNA repair. One of the essential genes in the repair pathway is the XRCC1 gene that its polymorphisms in the human population play a role in gastric cancer susceptibility. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the association of 194C/T and 399G/A polym...

Investigating the Distribution of ERCC2 (rs13181) Gene Polymorphism in Gastric Cancer Patients in Mazandaran: A Case-control Study

Background and objectives: Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers of the gastrointestinal tract in the world, which also has a high prevalence in Iran. ERCC2 gene is considered one of the major genes related to gastric cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between rs13181 polymorphism of ERCC2 gene. The polymorphism in the promoter region of ERCC2 gene can af...

Association between manganese superoxide dismutase gene polymorphism and breast cancer risk: a meta-analysis of 17,842 subjects.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the association between the manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) gene polymorphism and breast cancer risk, and to investigate the interaction of this gene polymorphism with known risk factors for breast cancer. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for breast cancer risk associated with co-dominant models [valine/alanine (Val/...

Association of rs9122 Polymorphism in the MCC Gene with Increasing the Risk of Gastric Cancer

Abstract Background and Aim: Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Genetic background is known to be one of the risk factors for gastric cancer. One of the genes that have been shown to be involved in various cancers, including gastric cancer, is the MCC gene. There are many SNPs in the MCC gene in the encoding and regulatory regions, one of which is rs9122, which ...
